(ABC 6 News) - A Rochester man is facing charges after police said he allegedly shot another man outside an apartment building.

Just before 10 p.m., police responded to the Gates of Rochester in the 2000 block of 41st Street in northwest Rochester for a report of a shooting.

According to RPD, the family of the victim had gathered at an apartment to celebrate the man's 27's birthday.

RPD said it appeared some issues developed during the gathering and the victim stepped outside. Another man, the fiance of the victim's cousin, also stepped outside and "had some words" with him. RPD said the man, 24-year-old Langston Mercedes of Rochester, pulled out a gun and shot the victim in the leg, and then took off on foot.

RPD along with the Minnesota State Patrol apprehended Mercedes on the 41st street bridge and located a gun that matched the description of the gun that was used in a grassy area near the bridge.

The victim was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Mercedes faces possible charges of second-degree assault and reckless discharge of a firearm.
