(ABC 6 News) -- All around the country and here in Minnesota was an event called "Pray on MLK."
The event was held to have an hour of silence to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., "We're here to pray, especially in honor of Martin Luther King. He changed all of us,” Rod Marquette, pastor at Destiny Church said.
People in attendance were calling for unity during these uncertain times.
“He had a dream and his dream matches the plan of God which someday every tribe and every nation from all over the world would come together and worship him,” Marquette said. “We're praying that his dream happens."
Marquette says the gathering was good to see, no matter how many people were there.
"I'm glad,” Marquette said. “Even if we had two people for anytime we get together and pray and be with him."
And for why the event is in Rochester, organizer Les Homan says all he wants for people is to pause to experience is peace.
“Rochester is no different from any other place in the country we need peace like anyone else does,” Homan said. “We need the things that Martin Luther King espoused like anyone else does."
The event was organized by a group called MARCH, which aims to serve others spiritually. Organizers like Les believes events like this helps unite people.
“There's no reason why any of us shouldn't be able to get along together. Martin Luther said in one of his I Dream speeches that I dream for the day when black boys and black girls can play without any problems with white boys and white girls,” Homan said. “It's about having an attitude of the heart where nothing else matters but you as an individual."
