(ABC 6 News) – More affordable housing is coming to Rochester.

The Coalition for Rochester Area Housing announced a new, innovative multi-year plan Thursday morning.

It’s a multi-million dollar commitment to address the affordable housing crisis in Olmsted County.

Mayo Clinic is donating $5 million to this effort.

"We have excitement about the potential for housing in our community because of the coalition and because of the alliance where we are bringing together people from all sectors of the community to have a community response to our very serious housing challenges," Olmsted County Commissioner Sheila Kiscaden said.

The Coalition has partnered with Bear Creek for this latest project to develop six new units at Mayowood Acres in southwest Rochester for military veterans on the property that already includes 60 affordable housing units. The project is called ‘The Pentagon Project.’ They expect to start building those units in April.
