(ABC 6 News) - Med City FC is raising money to help goalkeeper Gal Elyashiv pay for his hospital bills following surgeries that stemmed from an in-game collision June 9.
Elyashiv was concussed, busted his lip open, and broke bones in his face in the collision. The goalie is from Israel and has no health insurance in the United States, so the team has started a GoFundMe that has raised nearly $28,000 in the last 6 days. Med City FC General Manager Frank Spaeth says seeing support from around the world as well as from the soccer community has been wonderful.
"We can dislike each other when we're on the field and want to beat each other every time we play each other but when you see somebody even if it's on another team that needs help in a different way, that people are willing to step in and step up and that has been awesome," Spaeth said.
The GoFundMe page has a goal of $45,000 and can be found here.
