(ABC 6 News) - It's been a while since people have been able to watch a movie in a theater. But in Rochester, that's changing.

Starting Friday, Marcus Theatres in Rochester is reopening its doors after being closed for five months.

"We are really excited to be showing you movies once again here at our theaters," Derek Pikop, general manager at Marcus Theatres Rochester said.

Marcus Theatres in Rochester has big plans for their reopening and the staff wants you to know about their STAR program.

It's a rephrasing task where everyone plays a role in creating a safe environment.

"We're asking all of our guests to be movie stars. So please adhere to social distancing, we will be thoroughly cleaning and sanitizing during your visit, we also ask that you order online through our app so that you can have a touch less experience and we also ask that you respect all of the guests and associates," Pikop said. "So please wear your mask and adhere to social distancing."

Concessions and Ronnie's Drive-In Restaurant will also be open for guests and staff.

Certain seats in the theaters will be closed to ensure capacity limits and each theater will also be cleaned and sanitized after each show, with tape being put across each seat after it's cleaned so you know nobody else has been able to sit there.

"The future looks great. We can't wait to welcome people back and provide a safe and clean experience for everyone," Pikop said.

On the other side of Rochester is CineMagic Theatres. It has been open since June and general manager Jason Herber says business has been pretty steady.

"People want to watch movies at the theatre, it's different than being at home. Most of the movies our patrons have seen but just to see them on the big screen again like Jaws and the original Jurassic Park," Herber said. "It's just been a great reaction from our customers."

Cleaning and social distancing are also in effect, Herber says he's not been met with any concerns.

"If you want to go see a movie, the place is safe, the place is clean, we're on top of everything and it would be good to see you," Herber said.

As Marcus Theatres plans to reopen, they are also showing classic movies such as Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, Back to the Future and Jurassic Park.
