(ABC 6 NEWS) - A new indoor playground will soon take center court at Southbridge Mall in Mason City. Climb N’ Crawl Park, a free, soft-play park will give kids a safe place to play all year round.
“About 8 months of the year we really don’t know what to do with our kids. My wife stays home with our kids and that’s their playground. This is something that we’ve felt like is a huge need. We regularly on the weekends will go and visit other communities that have similar play elements or amenities and we want to be able to have that here in our town,” said Climb N’ Crawl Park project committee chair Austin Pehl, who has two kids himself and one more on the way.
The vision for the project began in 2012, but soon after, the River City Renaissance Project put this one on the back burner. Now that the downtown arena is complete, the idea has come back to life.
“There was a committee that was formed under the main street organization of moms and parents that really wanted to see something like this in North Iowa, specifically in our downtown Mason City,” said Emily Ginneberge, Executive Director of Main Street Mason City.
Using the $90,000 raised, the playground items have recently been purchased and are currently being constructed. Several local businesses have also donated their time and materials.
The park is expected to be installed in the mall at the end of March.
Main Street Mason City still needs to raise about $8,000 for the project. Donations can be made to the GoFundMe page here: https://gofundme.com/climbncrawlpark.
