(ABC 6 News) -- The names of the people involved in a deadly bicycle vs vehicle crash in Rochester Township on Tuesday have been released.
According to the Olmsted County Sheriff's Office, 48-year-old Stephen Pieper of Rochester was riding his bicycle west on Country Club Road, around 10:53 a.m., when he collided into the side of a Dodge Ram 3500 pickup at the intersection of Country Club Road and 60th Ave. SW.
The sheriff's office said the driver of the pickup, 61-year-old James Hanson of rural Oronoco, was heading north on 60th Ave.
The sheriff's office said Pieper was wearing a helmet but died from injuries sustained during the collision.
The sheriff's office said there was no indication alcohol or controlled substances were involved in the crash. They also said there was no indication anyone was using a cellphone.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
The Olmsted County Sheriff's Office said the intersection of Country Club Road SW and 60th Ave SW has reopened to traffic.
An intersection just west of Rochester will be closed while the Olmsted County Sheriff's Office investigates a fatal crash.
The sheriff's office said just before 11 a.m. first responders were called to the crash at Country Club Road and 60th Ave SW in Rochester Township.
Initial reports indicate a vehicle hit a bicyclist at or near the intersection.
The sheriff's office said a 48-year-old man from Rochester was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the vehicle was not hurt and remains at the scene assisting law enforcement.
The intersection is expected to be closed for an "indefinite period of time" while the crash is investigated. Please avoid the area as traffic delays and detours will be expected!
