(ABC 6 News) - You might think a dog park is a safe place to take your dog to run around off of the leash for a while, especially now with the warmer weather.
This weekend a dog and woman were both bitten by another dog at a dog park in Rochester.
This is Julie and her 12-year-old dog, Baby.
"I was coming to the dog park to have my dog come here and play," Julie M. said.
They were at the Jean and Carl Frank Canine Nature Park in Rochester on Sunday, a dog park that they are no strangers to.
"I've come here many times and there's no problem until I met that dog," Julie said.
Another dog at the park jumped onto Julie's dog and attacked him, leaving two puncture wounds on his neck and one by his eye.
"I was trying to push the dog away and the dog would not go and he bit me," Julie said.
Not only causing Baby to take a trip to the vet but sending Julie to the emergency room as well.
"I'm just sitting there shaking. I made sure that everything was going to be okay, huh buddy?" Julie said.
A Facebook post by Julie's friend, Missy, got lots of local attention and someone decided to help out by donating $200 toward Julie's vet bill.
"I was really surprised Quarry Hill (Animal Hospital) called me and told me that and I was like 'wow, there are some really good people out there. I just couldn't believe it," Julie said.
Although it was a scary experience for both of them, they are doing better now.
"I'm glad that he's still alive. He's been there for me for a long time and I was afraid I was going to lose him, I really was," Julie said.
Rochester veterinarian technicians say if your dog gets attacked by another dog, use something other than your body to break them up. Do not put your hands or body between the dogs because it will put you at a higher risk of yourself getting bit.
