(ABC 6 NEWS) - Many well-known traditions have returned to Rochesterfest for 2021, but there are also some new ones.
The Rochesterfest board decided to add on free art classes each day for kids ages kindergarten to 8th grade. These free classes were made possible with a grant from the Southeastern Minnesota Arts Council.
"We have 3 different artists from the community that is teaching the classes. We have painting, we have puppet making, we are going to do building sculptures with paper and cardboard and we are going to do character drawing on Thursday so there is something different every day," said President of the Rochesterfest Board of Directors, Judy Hickey.
Hickey said they wanted to create this opportunity for kids to learn about art in a fun way. Wednesday night will be no different with another big part to the classes at the Family Fun Night starting at 4 p.m.
"Part of family fun night we are doing a mural painting, community mural project, we have four eight by four sheets of plywood that have been designed into murals on both sides so we can paint them," said Hickey. She added, "Something we can display in the community and have out here for all of the kids to see and participate in."
Family Fun Night will also have a live Weather Lab with Chris Kuball and Jim Peterson starting at 7:30 p.m.
The art classes are every day from 1 to 2 p.m. and sign-up starts at noon at Soldiers Field under the big white tent.
