(ABC 6 News) - The Rochester Honkers home opener Tuesday night was the first time fans could pack the stands in over a year.

Not only are the fans excited to be back, but the team is also excited to have a feeling of normalcy again as we head into summer from the coaching staff to the players, including new Field Manager, Paul Weidner, with his first season with the Honkers.

"To be able to welcome this number of fans back with the restrictions being lifted, it's really exciting for everybody I think, including the fans," Weidner said.

The players are looking forward to fans being back to cheer them on because it wasn't the same last season.

"I can't wait. I know all of us are really looking forward to it and I'm sure some of the fans are really looking forward to going back to kind of a sense of normalcy at the baseball field. I think it's going to be a really fun night," catcher for the Honkers, Ivan Witt, said. It's Witt's first year playing summer ball for the Honkers.

Rochester beat the Eau Claire Express Monday night, starting the season off 1-0.
