(ABC 6 News) - UPDATE: The Dodge County Sheriff's Office said one person has died and at least five others were taken to the hospital after an apartment fire in Mantorville Thursday morning.

When crews arrived at the Chestnut Apartments they were able to rescue several people who had been trapped inside the building. The sheriff's office said as of about 10:20 a.m. all residents had been accounted for.

The sheriff's office said at least five people were taken to Saint Marys in Rochester with at least one person in critical condition. One person has also reportedly died in the fire.

The State Fire Marshal is at the scene and will help the Mantorville Fire Department determine the cause of the fire. According to the sheriff's office, initial reports to 911 said the fire started in apartment 5.

Dodge County Sheriff Scott Rose says law enforcement and fire personnel have been treated for smoke inhalation rescuing residents from inside the building.

"When they got here it was heavy smoke coming out of the building. Enough to the point where it made it difficult to enter the building. However, we did have law enforcement that did enter the building and they were able to get five people out. The initial people who called and reported it, they were also trying to get people to come out of their apartments as well. Certainly the initial law enforment officers that arrived, they definitely saved some lives today," Sherrif Rose said.
