(ABC 6 News) – It’s that special time of year, and Rochester police are teaming up with Rochester public schools to help brighten the holidays for students at middle school right fit.

Through Target’s Heroes and Helpers program, the school’s 19 students received $100 to spend on gifts for themselves and their loved ones.

Students did the shopping online and officers helped students pick up the gifts and of course, wrap it all up.

"I think learning such a small skill as wrapping presents and how imperfect that can be for everybody and how everybody may struggle at wrapping gifts and to learn how to do that creates the humanization between the two groups," said Kristi Palmby, Middle School Right Fit teacher

"This time of year is about giving one of the lessons that we wanted to pass along to the kids was that not only get something for yourself but get something to give to another person. A lot of kids probably don’t have the opportunity to give something to somebody else like their mom or dad so this gave them that opportunity to do that," James Marsolek, Rochester police dept. Community action team said.
