Both drivers did not have passengers at the time of the crash.  The crash took place on Saturday, May 23rd, around 11:00 a.m. in the 7900 block of Valleyhigh Road Northwest in Kalmar Township of Olmsted County.

The drivers who died were Gary Eisentrager, 73, from Byron, Minnesota and Kyle Love, 29, from Keller Texas.

The Olmsted County Sheriff's Office says the investigation of the scene and witness statements to the crash indicate that Love was driving a Jaguar SUV westbound on Valleyhigh Road when he attempted to pass other westbound vehicles.  Eisentrager was eastbound on Valleyhigh Road, driving a Saturn Vue, when Eisentrager’s vehicle was struck, nearly head-on, by Love’s vehicle.

Investigators say as of Sunday, there is no clear indication of alcohol or controlled substance use by either driver and seat belt use is still to be determined.

The Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office wishes to thank the Byron Fire Department, Byron First Responders, Mayo Clinic Ambulance Service for their response to the crash and live saving efforts.

The investigation is ongoing by the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office, the Rochester/Olmsted Forensic Mapping Unit, and the Southern Minnesota Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.

The Olmsted County Sheriff's Office and everyone involved in Saturday's crash would like to express their deepest condolences to the families of the deceased.
