On Sunday, September 11, the United States will pause to remember the terrorist attacks that occurred on US soil in New York City, Washington, D.C. and Pennsylvania. Nearly 3,000 lives were lost on that Tuesday morning, with more than 6,000 victims injured in the attacks.

Several area memorial ceremonies are planned to honor and remember those who were lost on September 11, 2001.

Clear Lake

“NEVER FORGET” – Memorial Event

3 p.m. – Clear Lake, IA Fire station

The event will include the Clear Lake High School Choir, flag raising ceremony, placement of the helmets ceremony, and a guest speaker Dean Hess Retired CLFD Firefighter/EMT.

Following the program, at approximately 4 p.m., there will be an emergency vehicle procession around the lake.

Mantorville

Field of Flags Dedication program

Saturday – 1 p.m. – 8th St & Highway 57

Program dedicates flags in memory of our four fallen heroes in Dodge County, honoring our military and first responder heroes.

Guest speaker is Kasson Police Officer Jesse Kasel, who has been serving the last several years as the School Resource Officer at KM Schools. Officer Kasel is also an Iraq War Veteran, who served our country in the Army from 2001-2005 and then the MN National Guard from 2007-2105 – in addition to serving at the Kasson Police Department.

Pine Island

September 11th Memorial Services

12 p.m. – Members of the law enforcement community, first responders, and military members will march from the Pine Island Fire Hall to the American Legion Memorial Garden.

A service will be held with Posting of Colors, speakers, music, placing of wreaths and roses, ringing of the bell, and presentation of Taps. If it rains, services will be moved inside the Legion Hall.

Rochester

9/11 Remembrance Climb

10 a.m. – Rochester Athletic Club

September 11th as we honor and remember those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, by climbing 110 flights of stairs to represent those climbed by Firefighters, Police, and EMS.
