(ABC 6 News) - Wednesday, members of Minnesota's congressional members were cooking up more than just bills in the 8th annual Hotdish Off.

Representative Betty McCollum's "Spam Good Hotdish" came in third. The winning dish was a little harder to pick.
After a tiebreaker, Congressman Tom Emmer won his first gold, beating out Rick Nolan with his Olympic “Hotdish of Champions.”

This was Senator Tina Smith's first year hosting the event. She said it's a great way to bring both sides of the aisle together.

"I always think of it as being like a family,” Smith said. “You might get mad at a family member here or there, but then you still come together over a big dinner and you break bread and you keep on talking, and I think that's a great motto for Washington D.C."
