Local Farmer Announces Bid to Unseat Rep. Peggy Bennett

(ABC 6 News) - DFL candidate, Terry Gjersvik has announced a bid for the Minnesota House of Representatives District 27A, which is currently held by Republican Peggy Bennett. District 27A includes Freeborn County as well as portions of Dodge and Faribault Counties. 

“I am running for State Representative because I want to give back to the area that has given me so much. My experiences as a father, farmer, teacher, and businessman have given me a breadth of experience and an appreciation of the issues facing the people and businesses of District 27A. I pledge to work my tail off on Economic Development, Education, and Health Care for greater Minnesota.”

Gjersvik spent his early childhood near the shores of Albert Lea Lake. His family moved from Albert Lea to a farm in Manchester Township when he was 10. Gjersvik lives on and farms this same farm today with his wife, Dara. 

He has an Agricultural Economics Degree from the University of Minnesota. He also earned a teaching license from Minnesota State, Mankato in 2001. Gjersvik worked as a special education teacher at Albert Lea High School before leaving to focus on farming. However, he continues to teach part-time.
