(ABC 6 News)-- The U.S. Supreme Court is back in session on Tuesday and heard its first cases on what three people within the LGBTQ community claim is workplace discrimination. The justices will ultimately determine whether the "federal civil rights law" applies to sexual orientation, preference and gender identity.
One case focuses on exemptions for religious groups. The other examines whether people with gender dysphoria are protected under the current federal law.
Note: We wanted to clarify the use of "sexual preference" within the video was not intended to be in place of "sexual orientation."
