(ABC 6 News) -- Ahead of the 2020 election, campaign volunteers in Mason City are trying to figure out where support lies. In previous election years, Cerro Gordo County voted twice for Barack Obama and then once for Donald Trump.

"I've had a number of Republicans who will probably stay Republican even though they're looking to go the other direction, but their big, main concern is what's going on. They've said they are going to vote Democrat in this upcoming election for the reason they're very unhappy with what’s happened," said Biden Campaign Volunteer Anna Jones.

When meeting with voters, Jones said she asks them what they think’s going on in our country today and how they feel about it.

Buttigieg Campaign Volunteer, Ben Krepshaw, said he's getting similar reactions.

"Most everyone I've talked to is just concerned about getting Trump out of the White House right now. That seems to be the number one priority," said Krepshaw. “The folks that did support Trump in the past that I've seen are exhausted at this point I think of him and are ready for something different."

"That's what they realized. That was a mistake that was made and now they're all looking, a number, a huge number, are looking at going, 'Look, what's happened, what we saw is not what we wanted and what we thought was going to happen, so therefore we are going to switch and vote democrat," said Jones.
