(ABC 6 News) -- Former Vice President Joe Biden has embarked on what he is calling his “No Malarkey” bus tour. The eight-day, eighteen county journey across Iowa brought him to Mason City Tuesday.
Biden spoke to caucus goers in a crowded room at the historic park inn.
However, for many voters, the star of the show proved to be Biden’s wife. Dr. Jill Biden is making select visits at stops along the tour.
“I loved her. I think she would make an excellent president. I really was impressed with her, what she had to say,” said Mason City resident Pat Wright.
Former First Lady of Iowa Christie Vilsack was also in attendance after she and her husband, former Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack endorsed Biden two weeks ago.
“The two of them together, they always do better. They play off of each other,” Vilsack said. “We’ve been watching him for 33 years, and I trust him just as much today as I did when I met him 33 years ago.”
Biden aimed to leave a lasting impact on north Iowans with his talk about rural America, saying those in Iowa should have the same opportunities as those living in urban areas.
“That message, having a rural policy, not an ag policy, but a rural policy is really important to people who live in places like this,” mentioned Vilsack.
If elected president, Biden claimed he would invest billions of dollars in rural America.
Biden will continue his tour on Wednesday with a stop in Charles City. The event will be held at the Columbus Club (Knights of Columbus) beginning at 7:30 PM.
