Marissa Luna: Sure so we, around Donald Trump coming to visit today, yesterday actually, we launched a series of digital ads on social media and search engines so that as Trump is visiting MN and folks are trying to figure out what's going on here we can remind people that the tax plan he's here to promote actually doesn't really do much of anything to benefit working people, benefit families, it actually does the opposite.  It hurts working people and it primarily benefits very wealthy individuals and corporations in MN and across the country.

Betsy: The Republicans are touting the tax bill on the federal level as letting American's keep more money in their paychecks... that more and more people are seeing the tax break, when they get paid, and therefore it is revitalizing the economy. You say that isn't so.

Marissa: No, that's just simply not the truth. And what we've seen and so many reports have shown, and many news stories at this point as well, are that the real beneficiaries of this tax plan, the people seeing the biggest benefits are actually not working families, they're not individuals who are just working to pay their bills and figure out their medical expenses and their day to day lives- the real ones that are benefiting from this tax plan are actually very rich corporations and very wealthy individuals, first and foremost.

Betsy: So then, any of the tax benefits, the tax breaks for Middle America, you're saying is just absolutely not the case.

Marissa: You know, what stories and reports have shown are that some folks may be receiving some very small, marginal tax benefits on an individual level, a lot of folks have actually seen their taxes go up a bit, but the real problem is that there is such a large volume of tax giveaways towards the wealthiest individuals and the corporations that is actually coming at the expense of programs like healthcare, social security, things that working people are our fair share into every day ... and we have not been seeing the same from the wealthiest individuals and corporations, and so then those are the folks that are actually reaping the biggest tax breaks while they continue to avoid paying their fair share... and it all comes back to hurting working people, and that if we continue about this way we are not going to be able to take care of folks, maintain programs like our healthcare and social security.

Betsy: The other side of this as conservatives and Republicans would say we are being taxed too much on the other side.  Do you agree with that at all?

Marissa: I don't agree that the big problem we're facing in our state and in our country is that working people are being taxed to much, it's rather that the wealthiest individuals and these very wealthy corporations haven't been paying their fair share.

Betsy: And that's the argument that we keep hearing time and again. I  appreciate that, Marissa, and I appreciate your time.
