Wind Stirs Up Snow

Wind Stirs Up Snow

February 12, 2019 01:44 PM

The accumulating snow has wrapped up but now the wind is just beginning.  Rural open areas will see the worst impacts with regards to the wind.  Gusts from the northwest will hover around 35 mph for most locations into the first few hours of Wednesday.  At times, gusts topping 40 mph will be possible in select spots.

Widespread blowing snow is to be expected keeping roads in poor shape in these wide open spaces.  Lesser traveled roads such as county highways and gravel roads may experience some big impacts from drifting as many ditches are now full of snow.  It wouldn't surprise me to see a couple roads become impassible as a result.  Main highways with regular maintenance will not be as susceptible to drifts.

Wind gusts shown below were as of 1:30 PM.  Also attached is the forecast wind and wind gusts for the next 24 hours.
