(ABC 6 News) -- An Austin man faces charges after a “wallet snatching” at the Austin Wal Mart store.

A woman told police she was shopping around 9:30 Tuesday night when the man-later identified as 26-year-old Christopher Easley-grabbed her wallet from her shopping cart.

The woman told police she confronted Easley, who ran from the store with the wallet.

Police Chief Brian Krueger said Easley fled into a wooded area, and police set up a perimeter around the area, with the help of a police K9.

Krueger said Easley came out of the woods voluntarily but refused officers’ commands to surrender.

He eventually gave himself up when officers drew their tasers.

Easley was taken to the Mower County Jail to await charges.

The police report did not indicate whether the stolen wallet was recovered.
