Thursday is going to be a day to be weather aware, with two rounds of storms on the way, both posing a strong/severe threat.
-A cluster of storms will continue to move over southern MN as the morning progresses. Timing will be from 10 AM until 2 PM, with damaging wind, large hail, & heavy rain the main threats. An isolated, quick spin-up tornado or two will be possible.
The rest of the afternoon, whether we see this cluster or not, will be quiet & warm, allowing for our atmosphere to get very unstable.
-This is the more likely opportunity to see widespread strong to severe storms for our area. Timing will be from 8 PM - 12 AM Friday, with all severe weather threats possible, including an isolated tornado or two. Extremely heavy rain looks likely as well, with a quick 1-2" of rain possible! This is a more dangerous situation, as tornadoes are extremely difficult to spot at night, and the night time is also the timeframe where most people lose their lives to flash flooding.
