(ABC 6 News) - On June 10, Albert Lea’s first responders were dispatched to a structure fire at Pro Trucking’s 7000 sq. ft. truck maintenance shop. When they arrived on scene, they found the building fully engulfed in flames. Hayward, Glenville, and Austin fire were all called in to assist on scene.
Deputy Director of Fire for Albert Lea Fire Department, Jeff Laskowske, said they needed the help of aerial apparatus to get large quantities of water in the building to extinguish the fire. The Minnesota State Fire Marshal’s office and Albert Lea Fire Rescue are trying to determine the cause and origin of the fire. Rick Verhey lives next to Pro Trucking and witnessed the blaze. He said he was forced to evacuate as toxic smoke blew in the direction of his home.
“Me and my wife were out in the garage and she said something’s burning. I stepped outside and stepped right back in and told her Pro Trucking’s on fire, call 911.” Said Verhey
Laskowske says that measure was taken out of precaution.
“We had large plumes of heavy black smoke floating that direction, so we just wanted to make sure that they weren’t going to have any issues.” He said.
Three repair employees work in the Pro Trucking building, but none were in the shop at the time of the fire. Laskowske says he anticipates the investigation to be complete by early the following week.
