Rochester man out $18K in online scam

(ABC 6 News) – Rochester police say a computer scam cost a 70-year-old man $18,000 in early March.

According to the Rochester Police Department, the senior called a number after it repeatedly popped up on his computer screen, and was instructed to send $3,000 in gift cards to an address in California, as well as $15,000 in cash to an address in New York.

After the man confirmed that the package was sent to New York, he told police the scammer sent him a message telling him he’d been scammed.
