Nunez files plea deal petition in Austin murder case

(ABC 6 News) – 19-year-old Miguel Nunez Jr. filed a petition to plead guilty to 2nd degree murder without intent while committing a felony, as his July 11 trial date approaches.

Nunez Jr. entered the petition to plead guilty to one of his three murder charges on Thursday, June 30.

He faces two counts of 2nd degree murder without intent and one count of 2nd degree murder with intent–not premeditated if the plea deal is rejected.

Nunez Jr. was arrested in connection with the 2021 death of Austin resident David Harris.

Police said Nunez Jr. had gone to the house in Austin to buy marijuana and threatened to shoot everyone if he wasn’t given the drugs, according to court documents.

According to police, Harris heard the commotion and opened his bedroom door holding a gun, after which Nunez Jr. allegedly shot Harris and fled.

He was later arrested in Sioux Falls, S.D.
