Iowa native headed to Germany for Special Olympics World Games

(ABC 6 News) – A Sioux City, Iowa native has earned a spot on Team USA and will help represent the United States and Iowa at the Special Olympic World Games in Berlin, Germany this June.

Mitchell Betsworth, is part of a delegation of more than 200 members from 46 states that will compete at this summer’s games. Betsworth will represent Special Olympics Iowa in powerlifting. He has been involved with Special Olympics for the last fifteen years including being awarded Special Olympics Iowa Male Athlete of the Year in 2016.

Betsworth has competed at the Special Olympics USA Games in 2014, 2018 and 2022. He is the only Iowan heading to the Special Olympic World Games this summer.

The Special Olympic World Games will take place in Berlin, Germany from June 17-25.
