Albert Lea Police hosting scam protection program Friday

(ABC 6 News) – The Albert Lea Police Department will host a program on Friday to show how people can protect themselves from scams and fraud.

The event is free and will held at Edgewater Bay Pavilion, 1940 Edgewater Drive, at 10:00 a.m.

Marty Fleischhacker, Senior Financial Fraud Ombudsman from the Minnesota Department of Commerce, will be the featured speaker.

Topics covered will include common scams and fraud, the Senior Safe Program, who fraudsters are targeting, local fraud attempts, tips on prevention, and whom to contact regarding fraud.

The event is in partnership with United Methodist Church and Arcadian Bank.

It’s also part of the Albert Lea Police Department’s ‘Faith and Blue’ program.

On Saturday, people can bring documents for free shredding to United Methodist Church, 702 U.S. Hwy 69, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. An Albert Lea police officer will be on hand to answer questions on preventing fraud and scams.
