Thanksgiving Losing Luster

Thanksgiving Losing Luster

November 20, 2018 08:55 PM

Thanksgiving is still expected to be dry.  It's also expected to be warmer than days of recent.  But it's also losing a bit of its appeal because it now looks like clouds will play a more prominent role.

Overall the atmosphere is warming, but there's a layer just above the surface that is warmer than the air at the ground expected on Thursday.  We call that an inversion.  Sometimes it has a tendency to 'trap' the air below it.  In this case, it looks like there will be sufficient moisture in the air that clouds should form.  Given the trapping that will occur, I'm skeptic that clouds will have a chance to break apart during the day.

This will alter the perception on the day a bit (as well as reduce the temperatures some)  We're still looking at highs in the afternoon in the middle 30s, but just the simple reduction of sunshine will leave some moods changed for Thanksgiving.
