According to the Rochester Police Department, a 20-year-old woman who lives in an apartment complex in the area made arrangements with a man from Facebook to buy an iPhone for $200.

Authorities said the man sent her a message, saying he was outside. The woman asked her father to watch the interaction from the apartment window and her 18-year-old brother to watch from the apartment vestibule.

The woman told police, as the man handed her the iPhone box, she was holding the $200 to pay him. She attempted to changed the SIM card from her old phone to the new one on the spot. She had realized she'd just opened an empty box, when the man grabbed the money from her and ran to a dark colored vehicle and took off.

The victim called police and officers pulled over a vehicle matching the description she gave near the intersection of 8 1/2 Street and 15th Ave. The victim identified one of the passengers as the person who stole from her.

Police searched the vehicle and found another empty iPhone box and two $100 bills underneath a car floor mat.

The 17-year-old suspect is facing a possible charge of felony theft of a person.
