The days are still getting shorter, but it's not because of the sunset. On Thursday, the sunset will hit its earliest time, 4:32 PM. The sunrises are still coming later, however. That trend continues through December 28th. In between, we have the Winter Solstice on December 21st. This marks the point where the days start to get longer, the balance between the sunrise/sunset no longer removes the time of daylight.
As of Wednesday, there will be 9 hours and 6 minutes of daylight. At our lowest on December 21st, that number will be 8 hours and 53 minutes. Past that point we'll see the days get longer and will continue growing until June. At our longest days, 15 hours and 29 minutes of daylight is achieved.
