(ABC 6 News) - Students at one local middle school are wrapping up the school year learning about the different cultures and ethnicities of their classmates.

ABC 6 News Anchor Laura Lee was invited as a special guest to share her Hmong culture with Ms. Marisa Cottrell's sixth grade social studies class at John Adams Middle School.

They are currently studying about the Hmong people.  From costumes to food, students were able to experience first hand the traditions of the Hmong culture.

"Everyone comes from somewhere, and the conversations that have happened this week are amazing, they've learned about each other and where they are from, what they are and it's just great to see," said Cottrell.

Adding that textbooks don't always have the best lessons.  "They don't have it in there and as a teacher you've got to find a way to get it in there so they have that knowledge," said Cottrell.

The students will celebrate the end of the lesson next week with a presentation of their family tree.
