(ABC 6 News) -- Storms passing through our area Saturday morning knocked out power for thousands of residents.

The People's Energy Cooperative, Rochester Public Utilities, Freeborn-Mower Cooperative Services were reporting thousands of their customers were without power as of 11:30 Saturday morning.  Alliant Energy in Northern Iowa was also reporting several customers without power as storms barreled through the area.

As of 1:00 p.m. Saturday, RPU announced that they are trying to get to everyone's calls the best way they could as they posted on Twitter, "Literally every single RPU employee that can be helping with power restoration has or is getting a phone call to help get every customer back on. Thank you for understanding!"

People's Energy Cooperative reached out to their customers Saturday morning on Facebook and asked them to be weather aware, "We continue to experience large-scale outages (approximately 5,000) throughout our service territory. Damage such as this is making power restoral difficult. Crews are out working to restore power as quickly and safely as possible. It looks like another round of storms will be moving in to the area so please be safe and stay weather aware."
