(ABC 6 NEWS) -- It's bringing the generations together.
Twelfth graders at St. Ansgar community school are delivering meals to senior citizens in a campaign that's about much more than food.
"I think it's important to do this because it's one way to give back to the community" St. Ansgar high school senior Sarah Phelps told us.
It's a real-life lesson in how to change the world … if you can't do it all at once, do it one meal at a time.
"we're doing meals on wheels today and I volunteered because it's a good way to give back to the community" high school senior Siera Henaman said.
"The students come from the high school on Mondays and Wednesdays  … and they will go out and deliver anywhere between  12 and 20 meals" Meals On Wheels coordinator Mary Kleinwort said. "The people that receive home-delivered meals are shut-ins."
"It's easier for me to be just right where I am now"91-year-old Leora Stromley told us after receiving her meal.
"This might be the only time they see a person throughout the day" Sierra Henaman. It was her first time delivering Meals.
"I think it's good for our students to understand If there's an opportunity for them to help, then they should" St. Ansgar school counselor Lori Riley said.
"I wouldn't be able to prepare a good meal any more" Leora Stromley explained.
"There are people who really don't have all of their needs met" school counselor Lori Riley said. "and this is an opportunity for our students to be involved in that."
"And I have two meals out of what they bring me at noon. And they're tasty" Leora Stromley said.
"And i hope that our students recognize that even a small action like delivering the meals once or twice a month can really make a difference for somebody" counselor Lori Riley told ABC6.
"And the kids are all very nice. Pleasant. Fun to see them" Leora Stromley said after Siera henaman and Sarah Phelps delivered her meal.
"It just makes you feel good at the end of the day that you helped someone and hopefully made them smile" Sarah Phelps said with a smile of her own.
