(ABC 6 News) -- It's hard to believe but Thanksgiving is already two weeks away. Most of us love to enjoy all the delicious food that the holiday has to offer, but there are some that don't always get a feast. Now a few local high school students are looking to change that.
Thursday, a special "Slices for Soldiers" pizza party was hosted by students at John Marshall High School.
Each year the American Studies students at JM focus on several 'Spirit of Service' projects. This year they're making it their mission to provide dinner to each veteran staying in an area veteran's home or VA hospitals this Thanksgiving. Thursday, they collected donations to help serve more than 2,000 veterans across the area.
“JM has been doing this for 20 years and our goal is to raise money support and give veterans meals, Thanksgiving meals like turkeys and hams. We just want to help out our community and then also send a message to others in the Midwest," said Esme Decker, a sophomore at John Marshall.
All of the money raised from the event will go straight to all those facilities locally, as well as others in St. Cloud, Minneapolis, and even over in Tomah, Wisconsin.
