(ABC 6 News)-- The Super Bowl game not only brings in excitement and hype, but it also increases the number of people calling in to work the Monday after the game.
According to USA Today, 14 million people are planning to take off work for "Super Sick Monday." Last year, about 16.5 million people planned to call in sick the day after the big game.
Pamela Johnson is a workplace culture expert and a founder of her own company the Secret Society of Happy People. She said the number of people calling into work is growing as the Super Bowl becomes more of an event for our culture.
If bosses and companies already know people are calling in, and are faking sick, why let them think they can get away with it? Johnson said that it's easier for the boss to expect it, and if the office can be flexible, then it should because unfortunately, people are still going to call in sick even when they're not.
