(ABC 6 News) - A number of Minnesota and Iowa Shopko Pharmacy locations are closing and customers will be transferred to nearby Hy-Vee Pharmacies, a Hy-Vee spokesperson said Friday.
Hy-Vee public relations director Christine Gayman confirms the grocery chain will acquire pharmacy customers from 22 Shopko locations, including in Rochester, Austin, Albert Lea, Mason City, Winona and Mankato. Hy-Vee will work to hire the Shopko employees where possible.
A Forest City pharmacy is not included in the deal.
Customers will receive a letter outlining the changes, but Gayman said no action is needed on their part. Hy-Vee will begin filling prescriptions for its new customers later this month and in January based on location.
The move comes days after Kroger announced it would acquire Shopko Pharmacy customers at 42 locations.
Shopko also recently announced it was closing 39 stores in 19 states, including three in Iowa and two in Minnesota.
ABC 6 News has reached out to Shopko for more information but so far have not heard back.
