(ABC 6 News) -- It rained, and then it down-right poured. But the storm that rolled through Rochester cleared out just in time for a much-anticipated concert.
One of the biggest headliners to date for the "Olmsted County Fair" took to the stage Wednesday evening.
“Rochester, Minnesota how are y’all feeling tonight?” called Scotty McCreery to a crowd of excited fans. “Thank y'all so much for coming out tonight we appreciate it. First and foremost allow me to introduce myself to you, my name is Luke Bryan,” he joked.
McCreery sang in front of an estimated 2,500 people. He performed several songs from his new album "Seasons Change", including his first number one single "Five More Minutes".
This was McCreery's first time visiting Rochester.
"My wife is a nurse so we told her we were right here where the Mayo Clinic is and she got all excited,” he said. “She knows the research they do there and the good things that come out of there. So we are excited to be here, excited to be in Rochester.”
The country music singer won American Idol in 2011. He says he was bagging groceries in North Carolina before Idol put him in the national spotlight. ABC 6 News sat down with him on his tour bus. We asked McCreery about American Idol’s latest winner; Iowa resident, Maddie Poppe.
"I haven't met Maddie yet. Tweeted her congrats and told her welcome to the family,” said McCreery. “So far so good from what I see from her. Her voice is incredible, she has got great talent, great stage presence so I am excited about her."
His concert included special guests “Parmalee” and Stewartville band, “Aaron Simmons”. It wraps up the concert portion of the Fair this year.
McCreery will make an appearance on ABC’s Celebrity Family Feud on August 5th.
