(ABC 6 News) -- The Christmas season in the Med City doesn't officially kick-off until Santa Claus is rescued from the roof of Old City Hall in downtown Rochester. 

The Rochester Fire Department is ready to help with the rescue, once again, and people of all ages are invited to watch and cheer them on! 


This annual tradition, put on by the Rochester Downtown Alliance, is a unique event that brings people from all over to Rochester to experience the joy of Christmas.

4 to 6 p.m. Warming House – Castle Community Activities: story time with Mrs. Claus, cookie decorating, art activities, and a cup of coffee or hot chocolate 
4 to 6 p.m. Santa's Elves' Workshop - 311 South Broadway Ave (next to RDA office) Provided by Olmsted Medical Center Activities: Write a letter to Santa, watch "The Santa Clause," and make your own creation with Café Steam hot chocolate 
4 to 8 p.m. Altra Federal Credit Union Kindness Tree – MOKA Peace Plaza Buy new gloves, hats, and scarves. Pin them to the Kindness Tree. The donated items will be distributed to those in need of these winter staples by the Rochester, MN Salvation Army after November 30. 
6:05 p.m. Help Save Santa - Old City Hall Watch the Rochester Fire Department's thrilling Santa Claus rescue from atop Old City Hall. 
6:30 p.m. Tree Lighting Ceremony - Peace Plaza Photo Op in front of the Giant Holiday Tree on the Peace Plaza 
7 to 8 p.m. Complimentary Photo with Santa - Shops at University Square
