(ABC 6 News) – A woman, who authorities said was forced to come to the United States for the purposes of sex trafficking, is getting help from the Rochester Police Department.

According to Police Captain John Sherwin, the Rochester Criminal Interdiction Unit was conducting a prostitution sting on Monday, November 20, after responding to an ad on backpage.com.  An undercover officer was corresponding with a woman through text message, and noticed there was a long delay between each text sent by the respondent.  The officer met the woman at a hotel in Rochester, and soon discovered the woman was not from the United States and did not speak English.

Captain John Sherwin said the woman had a one-way cell phone, has origins in China, and did have a passport.  It’s unclear how she got to Rochester, said Captain Sherwin, but she is being treated as a victim who was forced to travel around the United States for the purposes of sex trafficking.
