RPD: "Prolific Offender" Arrested Monday

(ABC 6 News) -- A man, Rochester police call a "prolific offender", was back in custody Monday night.

Around 10:23 p.m. on April 23, an officer pulled a vehicle over on the 1900 block of 8 1/2 Street SE for allegedly making several turn violations.

According to Captain John Sherwin, the officer smelled marijuana and searched the vehicle.  The officer found marijuana and a loaded handgun. Captain Sherwin said the passenger in the vehicle, 20-year-old Juan Martinez, is considered a "prolific offender" and has a number of prior convictions. Martinez was taken into custody, and Captain Sherwin said he admitted to having cocaine and marijuana on him.

Martinez faces a number of charges; including felony possession of a pistol, felony sales of marijuana and fifth-degree possession of cocaine.
