(ABC 6 News)—Each year the Tuesday following Thanksgiving is a day to give back. Giving Tuesday is in its sixth year and the Ronald McDonald House in Rochester has decided to take part.

A family staying at the home knows just how important donations are to a house that gives back to many families.

"We've been given so much through them and it's just such a blessing to be able to stay here," said Jennifer Jorgenson whose been staying at the house for nearly five months.

Jorgenson’s 15-year-old son, Kallen Jorgenson is an in-patient at Saint Marys. Kallen suffered from septic shock and was airlifted to Mayo Clinic for emergency heart surgery.

He ended up having his arms and legs amputated.

"He was put on dialysis, g-tube, a trach, all of the things that come with septic shock when you suffer multi-organ system shut down," said Jorgenson.

This giving Tuesday, the Ronald McDonald House is asking for your donations.

"We wanted to take part in that here at Ronald McDonald House and reach our families all across the country who are participating in giving Tuesday. Also to friends and family of the guests at the house who may have a day that they want to support us," said Samantha Rother, the Development Officer at the Ronald McDonald House.

Your donations go farther than you may think. Giving a simple $15 can help cover a family who isn't able to contribute to their stay, meaning it only takes a $450 donation to cover the cost of a family's stay for one month.

"It means that they can focus on what's really important to them while they're here and that's caring for their sick child," said Rother.

Jorgenson said these donations go so far in a house that's helped her tremendously.

"We're there rooting each other on, so I really encourage anybody if they can give because it really will benefits a lot of people," said Jorgenson.
