Rochester Soldier Surprises Mom in an Emotional Reunion

(ABC 6 News)-- We've seen reunion stories all over the internet, and the reaction between this mother and her military son was no different.

For the first time in 10 months, Nathan Hallock hugged his mom. And of course, Maggie Hallock embraced her son right back.

The soldier returned from overseas this week, after being deployed for almost a year, "He missed the major holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas and Easter, and for him, he missed his 21st birthday so, thankfully we have a lot of family support and community support so that's really helped," said Maggie Hallock, a sales associate at Home Depot.

Nathan found out about his return just the day before coming home, and even though it was short notice, he quickly devised a plan to surprise his mother.

"I found out she was working and I called the store just to set it up and I told them what I wanted to do," said Hallock.

While his mother's reaction was the only surprise he was expecting- he got a bit of a surprise himself...

"I was just very excited to see her reaction. I knew I knew she was going to freak out. I didn't know she was going to do like an Olympic hurdle over the counter," said Hallock.

That excitement will carry over in the weeks ahead as Maggie spends priceless hours with her son.

"Rely on your faith, and rely on your family. You kind of give up a lot to God just like you know, I'm powerless in making sure he's safe and you put it into God's hands," said Maggie, to other parents dealing the same separation.

But in the meantime -- God put her son -- back in hers.
