Rochester Pair Facing Federal Charges for Child Pornography

(ABC 6 News) - A man and woman from Rochester facing felony charges in Olmsted County have now been federally charged for allegedly producing, distributing and receiving child pornography.

According to federal court documents, 29-year-old Adam Reitz and 26-year-old Shahla Thompson are facing a charge of the production of child pornography. Federal documents state around August 25, 2017, Reitz and Thompson "each aiding and abetting the other, did employ, use, persuade, entice, and coerce, a known Minor Victim to engage in sexually explicit conduct for the purpose of producing visual depictions of such conduct, including the following digital photographs." The documents then list four photographs depicting a minor with a dark cloth covering their eyes engaging in sexual acts with Reitz.

Court documents state that those images were produced using materials, including a cell phone, and had been, "mailed, shipped, and transported in interstate and foreign commerce."

Reitz is also facing a charge of distribution of child pornography. According to court documents, on or around March 29, 2018, Reitz knowingly distributed the photographs, "using a means and facility of interstate and foreign commerce that had been mailed, shipped, and transported," and that the distribution was including, but not limited to, a conversation on Facebook messenger. Documents state that conversation contained a minor female engaged in sexually explicit conduct.

Thompson is also facing a charge of receipt of child pornography. According to court documents, on or around March 29, 2018, Thompson knowingly received a photograph involving a minor female engaged in sexually explicit conduct through, but not limited to, a conversation on Facebook messenger.

The trial for both Reitz and Thompson is scheduled to begin on October 15 in U.S. District Court in St. Paul.

In Olmsted County, Reitz has also been charged with 1st-degree criminal sexual conduct with a victim under 13, 2nd-degree criminal sexual conduct with a victim under 13 and child endangerment.

In Olmsted County, Thompson is charged with 2 counts of 1st-degree aiding and abetting criminal sexual conduct with a victim under 13 and child endangerment.

The two are accused of drugging a child, sexually assaulting the child and using him in child pornography.

According to court documents, the investigation began in May 2018 when the child's mother called the police saying he appeared to be "under the influence."

Court documents state a trip to the hospital confirmed he had "methamphetamine poisoning."

According to court documents, Reitz told officers the coffee may have had meth residue from days earlier.

Court documents also state authorities searched Reitz and Thompson's house and found drugs and pictures of sexual contact between Reitz and the child on electronic devices.
