Two arrested on drug charges after traffic stop in Rochester

(ABC 6 News) -- Two people were arrested after an officer found drugs during a traffic stop on Saturday night in Rochester. 

Around 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 19, an officer saw a vehicle on the 500 block of 14 St. NW and knew the driver had a revoked license.

When the officer walked up to the driver's side of the vehicle, the officer saw the driver acting "nervous" and putting something on the floor. The officer also had information that there could have been drugs in the car. The officer brought in a K9 unit to search the car and the dog alerted on a purse in the car. 

According to Rochester Police Captain Casey Moilanen, there was 28 grams of meth, 6 grams of marijuana, and drug paraphernalia in the purse. Capt. Moilanen said there was also meth in the trunk of the car. 

The driver, 46-year-old Mark Heath, was arrested and is facing charges of 5th-degree controlled substance, possession of a small amount of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving after revocation, failure to signal turn, expired tabs, and possession of hypodermic needles. 

The passenger, 35-year-old Ashley Akermann was arrested and is facing charges of 1st-degree controlled substance, 2nd-degree controlled substance, possession of a small amount of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
