(ABC 6 News) -- Rochester Mayor Ardell Brede has announced Jim Franklin as the city's next police chief, according to a press release sent by a Rochester city official Tuesday morning.
Franklin is currently a Captain with the Minneapolis Metropolitan Transit Police. He holds a Master's Degree in public administration as well as a Law Enforcement Degree from Metropolitan State University. In addition to his time with Metro Transit, Franklin has served with the Plymouth Police Department and he's an adjunct professor for Rutgers University.
In March, Franklin was announced as one of three finalists for the Rochester chief position. The search began after former Chief Roger Peterson announced his retirement last year. Peterson retired at the end of April, 2018 and shortly afterward, Rochester Police Chief Captain John Sherwin was promoted to Interim Chief while the search for a permanent chief continued.
Franklin's appointment with the City of Rochester will begin July 26, 2018.
