(ABC 6 News) -- Rochester Police said 46-year-old Mark Huyber admitted to pouring sugar into the gas tank of a vehicle in southwest Rochester Friday night.

The victim said Huyber was a former boyfriend and she told police he was the only person she could think of who would do something like that to her and her current boyfriend. Surveillance video from a Kwik Trip on 20th St. S Broadway showed Huyber buying a bag of sugar. The police investigator believed that was probable cause to make an arrest.

Huyber was located at a construction site on 1st St. and 1st Ave. SE on Monday afternoon. Police said Huyber ran from them as they were attempting to handcuff him. A nearby foreman saw Huyber run and police said the foreman tackled Huyber to the ground. Both had minor scrapes, according to police.

Huyber later admitted to police that he bought the sugar and poured it into the gas tank, but that he did not tamper with the gas line that the victim had reported to police.

Huyber faces a second-degree burglary charge.

PREVIOUS STORY:

Police say someone entered a home, cut a furnace gas line, and poured sugar into a vehicle gas tank in southwest Rochester Friday night.

It happened on the 200 block of 18 St. SW sometime between 6 and 9 p.m. When the people who live at the home got there, they smelled natural gas. One of the victims went to the basement, saw the natural gas line to the furnace had been cut, so he shut the gas off. They opened all the windows to the home and left. When they came back, the odor still hadn't completely been cleared out and the victims called the police. They also discovered someone had poured sugar into the gas tank of a 2013 Ford Edge that was parked in the garage.

No arrests have been made, but police do have a person of interest. A spare key that had been hidden outside was also missing.
