Rochester Man Arrested After Allegedly Driving Drunk, Crossing Driving Lanes

(ABC 6 News) -- An Olmsted County Sheriff's deputy was doing radar on the 4500 block of Highway 14 in Rochester, west of County Road 22, around 3:40 a.m. on Saturday, January 19th. 

According to Olmsted County Sherrif's Captain Scott Behrns, the deputy caught a black Chevy Impala speeding on Highway 14. The deputy tried to catch up to the vehicle. On the 1800 block of Highway 14, near Highway 52, Capt. Behrns said the vehicle went through the median and was driving eastbound in the westbound lane, and then went back over the median and began driving the right direction again.

The deputy eventually got the car pulled over near 16 Ave NW and Civic Center Dr. Capt. Behrns said the driver the car, 34-year-old Ronald Ward of Rochester, got out of the car with his hands up. 

Ward was taken to the Olmsted County Adult Detention Center on suspicion of drunk driving. When the deputy was patting Ward down, the deputy said he found a loaded .380 caliber pistol in Ward's pocket. 

Once at the ADC, Capt. Behrns said Ward blew a .13 on a breathalyzer test. 

Ward is facing several gross misdemeanor charges; DUI, DUI over .08, possessing a firearm without a permit and carrying a firearm under the influence of alcohol.
