(ABC 6 News) -- According to the Rochester Police Department, an 84-year-old woman could lose her eye after a 58-year-old man threw a "heavy ashtray" at her.

Rochester Police Captain Casey Moilanen said it all started with a theft at Silver Lake Foods around 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 11.

Someone stole cigarettes and mouth wash from the store. After looking at surveillance video, an officer went to 58-year-old Steve Fitzsimmons' home to ticket him for the theft. When the officer got there, she saw the 84-year-old woman with injuries on her face.

Capt. Moilanen said Fitzsimmons and the woman were arguing about whether to buy a new tv, when Fitzsimmons threw the ashtray at the woman's face.

Capt. Moilanen said Fitzsimmons was drunk and passed out when the officer got to the home and he blew a .37 on an alcohol breath test.

Fitzsimmons was taken to the hospital first and then to the Olmsted County Adult Detention Center. He's facing a felony domestic assault charge. He was cited for the theft.

The woman was taken to the hospital.
