(ABC 6 NEWS) - On Tuesday, a Rochester man was arrested for what he is calling “whipping” a child. 

According to Rochester police, on April 23rd at around 10 a.m., a 14-year-old girl reported the incident to her school liaison officer who forwarded the information to authorities.

Police say the teenager was a relatives house on Monday, April 22nd, when she fell asleep sometime after 5 p.m. The victim told her liaison officer she was woken up around 8 p.m. by a man who was known to her striking her 14 times on her buttocks and thighs. Her hands were reportedly injured from trying to protect herself.

Authorities say the man also threatened to get a “better belt” to continue the “discipline” and that he sent someone to a store to buy another belt but the girl said no other incident followed.

Police located the man at his place of employment and placed him under arrest.

38-year-old Steve Johnson of Rochester is facing a couple gross misdemeanor charges, including “malicious punishment of a child”.
